USA - The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has awarded Oshkosh Defense - a wholly owned subsidiary of Oshkosh Corporation of Oshkosh, Wisconsin - an indefinite delivery and indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract to produce the Next Generation Delivery Vehicle (NGDV). This contract is the first large-scale fleet procurement by USPS in three decades. The competitively awarded contract does however state delivery of between 50,000 and 165,000 vehicles over a period of 10 years!

Under this contract Oshkosh Defense is to manufacture both zero emission battery electric vehicles (BEV) and fuel-efficient low-emission internal combustion engine vehicles (ICE), upgrading the USPS fleet to be increasingly sustainable. Under the contract, USPS has committed to pay Oshkosh Defense USD482m to initiate engineering efforts to finalise production, vehicle design, tooling and factory build-out activities necessary prior to vehicle production.
