Voith wins electric drivetrain supply contract for next generation city buses with Wrightbus

Germany / UK – Ballymena-based Wrightbus, UK (a subsidiary of the Bamford Bus Company) has agreed an exclusive partnership with Voith Turbo GmbH of Heidenheim, Germany for supply of the Voith Electrical Drive System (VEDS) for second generation battery-electric (BEV) and fuel cell (FCEV) buses for Europe. In future, the company is to equip all these vehicles with the VEDS as standard.

From August 2021, Wrightbus is scheduled to deliver the first of 80 StreetDeck BEV double-deck buses with the VEDS to Translink, the largest bus operator in Northern Ireland, for scheduled operation in Belfast and Derry.
