VDL in collaboration with ROCSYS and Grivix to develop robotic charging

By Jim Gibbins - 1st April 2021

Netherlands / Switzerland – Delft-based ROCSYS, a supplier of plug-in robots, Grivix GmbH, a Swiss supplier of automated high-power vehicle inlets and VDL Enabling Transport Solutions (VDL ETS) of Valkenswaard, Netherlands, the charging test, validation and e-mobility division of VDL Bus & Coach BV, are working together to develop a robotic charging solution for Heavy Duty Charging under the grant-funded Eurostars project, Autocharge.

After completing this development, an e-truck or e-bus can automatically ask for a charge, the inlet cover opens and closes automatically, and the innovative robot ensures that the CCS plug - or even the recently announced MCS plug - is securely plugged into the vehicle allowing a fully automated fast charge of its battery. The entire system will be able to handle the expected higher MW+ powers in the near future.
