USA - Linamar Corporation* of Livonia, Michigan has entered the evaluation phase for its first Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle delivery vans with UPS in California. They are part of a technology contract with the Centre for Transportation and the Environment (CTE) which is managing the Next Generation Fuel Cell Delivery Van Deployment Project for the California Air Resources Board (CARB). Linamar partnered with Roush CleanTech (a division of the global engineering company, Roush Enterprises of Livonia, Michigan), and Ballard Power Systems of Vancouver, Canada, to provide a complete turn-key FCEV package. Four vehicles have been supplied.

Over the past decade, Linamar claims to have made substantial investment in automotive and commercial vehicle eAxle design, development and testing at its Livonia, Michigan, McLaren Engineering operations, as well as its McLaren Engineering centres in Germany and China – resulting in its second generation eAxle for Class 4-6 commercial vehicles. The new Gen 2.0 eAxle utilises a robust beam axle design with low NVH helical gears and an integrated electric park lock. Its single-speed, single-motor design claims to deliver 200kW and 11,400Nm to the rear axle for excellent start-ability and gradeability.
