BlackBerry to provide Volvo Group with OS software to control on-vehicle ECUs

Canada / Sweden – Software specialist, BlackBerry Ltd of  Waterloo, Ontario, Canada has been selected by Volvo Group to provide BlackBerry QNX as the foundation software for its main domain controller of electronic control units (ECUs) in more than 300,000 heavy vehicles the company manufactures every year.

Volvo Group said it wanted to take a new approach to software - finding a single supplier for the operating system (OS) and hypervisor (software that creates and runs virtual machines) to meet the needs of the ‘whole truck’, capable of supporting safety certification to the highest levels.
