France – Alstom, the Paris-based train manufacturing giant, has confirmed rumours that it plans to make a divestment of its electric bus unit, Alstom Aptis, which are made at its facility in Hangenbeiten, France.

In response to enquiries from Truck & Bus Builder, the Alstom communication team confirmed this decision has been made and that on Tuesday May 4, 2021, Alstom’s management had shared with trade unions and employees its intention to look for a potential buyer under the ‘Florange law’ of February 2014 – see explanation of Florange law in the article in italics below: Florange Law explained. Alstom cited strong competition in the European e-bus market-place and an unresolvable financial situation at Alstom Aptis, as the key reasons for the decision. The company plans to deliver the remaining vehicles that have already ordered. If no potential buyer is found, Alstom will cease the design and production of Aptis buses.
