USA / Switzerland - Bloomfield-based Jacobs Vehicle Systems Inc, a manufacturer of engine retarding and valve actuation systems, announced recently it has teamed up with ClearFlame Engine Technologies, a growing start-up from Geneva, Illinois, pioneering a new engine technology enabling low-carbon and carbon-negative fuels to be integrated easily into existing heavy-duty diesel engine platforms. Jacobs says it is supplying its Cylinder De-Activation (CDA) hardware as part of the cooperation.

ClearFlame technology claims to offer a more sustainable and cost-effective solution than diesel fuel. It is said to provide the same performance, efficiency, and rugged practicality associated with diesel engines, while eliminating the need for costly aftertreatment solutions. By replacing the petroleum-based fuel used with decarbonised fuels, such as ethanol, the ClearFlame engine technology significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions, particulate matter and smog, helping to meet stringent emissions regulations while reducing overall engine cost.
