Light-duty truck sales fall by 11.5% year-on-year hiding a substantial two-year decline of 30%

India - Sales of LCV goods carrier (trucks) vehicles (gvw ≤ 7.5t) saw sales decline by 11.5% in the fiscal year 2020-21 (April 1, 2020, to March 31, 2021) to 395,783 units from 447,351 units in FY2019-20. This is the second year of decline from 564,409 unit sales two years ago; a difference of 170,000 units!

Production of LCV goods fell modestly in FY2020-21 decreasing by 10.6% to 428,222 from 479,020 units in FY2019-20. This output figure for last year was again substantially lower than that two years ago, when output for that year reached 613,983 units. Exports failed to generate an increase in output, by falling 7.7% to 31,145 units from 33,746 units in FY2019-20 and from 47,163 two years ago.
