Bus and coach sales recover in first quarter in India

India – Domestic sales of buses (7.5t GVW and above) increased by 391% in the first quarter of the financial year 2021-22, with sales of 1,086 units compared to 221 units in Q1 of 2020-21. Total bus production increased in Q1 2020-21 by 299%. 920 units were exported in Q1 2021-22, an increase of 243.3% over 268 units in Q1 of the previous year.

Turning to the individual segments, domestic sales of lighter medium-duty buses (GVW: 7.5 tonnes - 12 tonnes) increased by 282.1%, from 155 units in Q1 2020-21 to 577 units in Q1 2021-22. Production increased by 281.5%, to 1,507 (compared to 395), while exports went up by 142.2% to 465 (192).
