USA – Columbus, Indiana-based drivetrains supply specialist, Cummins Inc, has announced it is exploring various options for the future of its filtration business unit, Cummins Filtration, including the prospect of spinning off the business into a standalone company. Cummins made the announcement in its report of sales revenue for the second quarter of 2021, in which it recorded revenues of USD6.1bn, a 59% increase on the second quarter of the previous year.

Cummins Filtration was founded in 1958 and produces fuel filters for use in heavy, medium, and light-duty trucks, as well as in heavy machinery and power generation systems. Cummins claims that, as an independent company, Cummins Filtration would have greater opportunities to accelerate growth by expanding its range of products and entering new markets, and it would open the door to further investment from new shareholders. Cummins believes the division is well-positioned for future growth, with a reliable revenue stream from aftermarket sales and a foothold in multiple markets in North America and Asia. In 2020, the division generated sales of approximately USD1.2bn.
