Cummins partners with Iberdrola to build hydrogen electrolyser plant in Spain

USA / SpainCummins Inc, a drivetrains specialist for a range of applications in the On- and Off-highway and industrial markets based in Columbus, Indiana, USA is partnering with electric utility company, Iberdrola SA, based in Bilbao to build one of the world’s largest electrolyser plants in the Guadalajara province of Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. The purpose of the plant will be the manufacture of PEM electrolysers which will be employed in the production of “green hydrogen”.1 

The projected plant carries a budget of EUR50m and will house system assembly and testing for approximately 500MW/year (scalable to more than 1GW/year). The initial size of facility required for this level of production is 22,000 m2. It is set to open in 2023.
