Micro Bird acquires EV powertrain specialist

Canada / USA – Micro Bird Inc, the Drummondville, Québec-based joint venture of bus manufacturers, Blue Bird Corporation of Fort Valley, Georgia and Girardin Minibus Inc (also of Drummondville), specialising in ‘Type A’ school buses, has acquired a controlling interest in powertrain specialist, Ecotuned Automobile, the trade name of GranTuned Automobiles.
Ecotuned was founded in 2011 and is based in Varennes, Québec. It manufactures an electric powertrain designed for light- and medium-duty applications, with a power output of 214hp and a range of up to 140 miles on a single charge. Ecotuned primarily markets the powertrain to customers wanting to retrofit existing fleets. Following the transaction, all three founding members of the company will remain as shareholders.
