USAPerrone Robotics of Crozet, Virginia, and Tropos Technologies Inc of Morgan Hill, California, announced a collaboration to develop a series of autonomous electric low-speed compact utility vehicles and trucks. The partnership brings together Perrone Robotics’ autonomous drive technology with the Tropos Motors brand of electric compact utility vehicles.

Perrone Robotics’ technology, dubbed ‘TONY’ (‘To Navigate You’), is an autonomous drive kit that can be retrofitted to any vehicle type. It comprises a platform with AI-driven manoeuvre selection and path-planning software; various sensors, including LiDAR1, radar, cameras, and GPS; and a motion control kit which automatically operates the vehicle. The technology is designed for a pre-defined space such as a military base, airport, apartment complex, or neighbourhood.
