Electra to integrate Proton Motor hydrogen fuel cell systems into its electric trucks

UK / GermanyElectra Commercial Vehicles Ltd of Skelmersdale, England, placed its first order for a hydrogen fuel cell system1 with Proton Motor Fuel Cell GmbH of Puchheim, Bavaria. This follows on from a partnership previously agreed between the two companies on the manufacture of hydrogen fuel-cell electric trucks. Trials of a prototype are slated to begin this December. 

Founded in 2017, Electra manufactures electric heavy-goods vehicles and carries out retrofits for its clients to electrify diesel trucks. In June 2021, Electra signed a memorandum of understanding with Proton Motor, agreeing to integrate Proton Motor’s fuel cell systems into its current electric truck portfolio. In turn, Proton Motor will provide engineering support and training to Electra’s staff. In addition, the two companies agreed on the joint development of a hydrogen-powered prototype vehicle and on combined sales and marketing activities in the UK.
