Chereau announces new electric reefer with solar panels and e-axle

France – Chereau Trailers of Ducey, France, has announced a new electric reefer featuring solar panels, a regenerative axle, and a battery pack to power the cooling unit. The new reefer is yet to be given a name and will be available for early-adopter testing after it is shown at Lyon’s Solutrans show in November 2021.
The reefer features an Addvolt 34kW battery pack that can be charged by the 27m² of solar panels mounted on the roof of the trailer; these panels can provide a peak output of 4.5kW. Chereau’s reefer is also equipped with a 24kW regenerative rear axle, supplied by SAF-Holland, which can recharge the battery pack during braking or downhill driving. Cooling for the reefer is nose mounted, provided by Carrier.
