SwedenScania AB, a manufacturer of commercial vehicles and subsidiary of the Traton Group based in Södertälje, Sweden, announced it is joining the Climate Pledge, which means the company is now committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2040, 10 years ahead of the Paris Agreement’s target.

Scania is one of 86 new signatories to the initiative, which entails a commitment to three general courses of action. Every signatory must measure and report its greenhouse gas emissions on a regular basis; they must decarbonise all aspects of their business by improving fuel and energy efficiency and transitioning to renewable energy where feasible; and they must neutralise any remaining emissions with additional, quantifiable, permanent, and socially-beneficial offsets in order to achieve net zero annual carbon emissions before 2040.
