Brazil – While the truck market has shown positive change, the Brazilian bus and coach segments have had a more difficult recovery. Despite the year-to-date performance in the bus and coach sector showing growth with 10,938 units sold, a 10.8% increase over the same period of the previous year, September sales came in at 847 units, a drop of 33.1% from the 1,273 units licensed in August and -30.8% compared with sales of 1,234 units in September 2020.

According to the National Association of Automotive Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea) based in Sao Paulo, who are responsible for collating and analysing these statistics, the bus segment saw one of the lowest rates of growth in passenger ridership due to travel restrictions and social distancing. Public transport operators, it stated, continue to see a fall in demand as people work and study from home. With this reduction in the use of buses, transport operators remain cautious and have delayed renewal of their fleets.
