All new buses procured by Transport for London to be zero-emission

UK – At the Zero-emission Bus Summit1 on 17 September, Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, announced that all new buses ordered by Transport for London (“TfL”) for the capital will be zero-emission. TfL states that, already by the end of 2022, 10% of London’s buses will be zero-emission.

The transport network has committed to delivering an entirely zero-emission fleet of buses in London by 2034, bringing forward its earlier target by three years. TfL claims, however, that with government support, decarbonisation of the bus fleet could be achieved by 2030. Replacing diesel and hybrid buses with zero-emission alternatives could save up to four million tonnes of carbon by 2037, with an extra million being saved if the target is reached by 2030, TfL claims.
