USA / FrancePlug Power Inc, a hydrogen fuel cell manufacturer based in Latham, New York, USA, and Lhyfe, a hydrogen production company based in Nantes, France, have agreed to work together in developing green hydrogen production plants across Europe. The two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding at HyVolution 2021 in Paris, which took place on 27-28 October, agreeing to generate a total hydrogen capacity of 300 MW and to start construction of a 1 GW production site by 2025.

The non-binding agreement builds on the companies’ ongoing collaboration at an offshore hydrogen production facility off the coast of Le Croisic, France. Plug Power will supply Lhyfe with the electrolyser technology required for the provision of 1 MW capacity at the site. The offshore plant will employ electricity generated by wind power and is expected to become operational by 2022.
