Los Angeles to install 7.5-megawatt electric bus charging system

USA – The Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) has announced it has been awarded a USD6 million grant by the California Energy Commission to install one of the largest EV fleet charging systems in the country.

The solar powered microgrid paired with 104 EV chargers will support the city’s adoption of electric buses as the agency gradually transitions to a fully electric fleet by 2028. LADOT has selected Proterra¹ and Apparent² to install the systems at the agency’s Washington Bus Yard. The solar panels will deliver clean energy to the microgrid while also providing backup power to enable the buses to operate during a grid outage.
