Q3 CV sales in Malaysia fall sharply as covid surges

Malaysia - The Malaysian commercial vehicle market over two tons gvw plunged by over 31% to 10,476 units in the third quarter of 2021 from 15,288 units a year earlier, according to www.AsiaMotorBusiness.com analysis of industry wholesale data.

The sharp decline comes after a strong market bounce in the same period a year earlier and reflects the latest social and business restrictions introduced by the government at the beginning of June to slow the rapid spread of the  Covid-19 Delta variant. The country’s GDP shrank by 4.5% year-on-year in the third quarter after a 16% rebound in the second quarter from very depressed year-earlier data during the initial wave of the pandemic.
