East Asia - Sales of commercial vehicles over 2 tons gvw in East Asia’s seven main markets, excluding China, declined by almost 10% to 305,868 units combined in the third quarter of 2021 after falling by 17% to 338,776 units in the same period of last year - according to data compiled by www.AsiaMotorBusiness.com from numerous industry sources.

The 32%-rebound in the second quarter came to an abrupt halt in the third quarter, as governments across the region were forced to reimpose strict social and business restrictions to slow the rapid spread of the Delta variant of the coronavirus. Economic growth across the region slowed sharply in the third quarter and even shrank, in the cases of Malaysia, Thailand and Japan, with private consumption and investment affected significantly by the lockdowns.
