Plug Power and ACCIONA Energía form joint venture for hydrogen production in the Iberian Peninsula

USA / Spain / PortugalPlug Power Inc, a manufacturer of fuel cell systems and electrolysers based in Latham, New York, USA, has formed a 50-50 joint venture with ACCIONA Energía of Alcobendas, Spain, a subsidiary of ACCIONA SA specialising in the production of renewable energy, which will be dedicated to the development, operation and maintenance of green hydrogen projects across Spain and Portugal. 

The new venture, called ‘AccionaPlug’, will be based in Madrid and will be led by Alan Ripa, former Chief Executive Supervisor at ACCIONA Energía Internacional. The companies expect the first plants built by the joint venture will be operational by 2023. AccionaPlug aims to capture a substantial share of the market for green hydrogen production in Spain and Portugal by 2030, developing a production capacity of over 100 tons per day.
