UK / SpainSwitch Mobility Ltd, a subsidiary of Ashok Leyland based in Sherburn in Elmet, UK, has announced it will be building a new manufacturing and technology centre in the province of Valladolid in Spain. Ground-breaking at the site is set to take place on 27 January 2022.

The facility, which will be Switch’s first on the Continent, will be supported by a GBP100m investment over the next ten years, creating 7,000 jobs (2,000 at the facility and over 5,000 “indirect”) in the region. It will comprise two production lines as well as a hub for research and development, with the first vehicles slated to begin production in the fourth quarter of 2022. The new facility marks a first step not only into the broader European market but also into the South American market which Switch will be targeting in the near future.
