China Yuchai subsidiary builds China’s first hydrogen engine for CVs

China / SingaporeGuangxi Yuchai Machinery Company Ltd of Yulin, Guangxi, China, a subsidiary of Singapore-based China Yuchai International Ltd, has built the first operating hydrogen engine in China suitable for multiple applications including commercial vehicles. 

The ‘YCK05’ hydrogen internal combustion engine was built in collaboration with the Beijing Institute of Technology, which successfully tested the engine during a public demonstration. The combustion engine has been designed with efficiency in mind, with high-pressure multi-point inlet air injection and low-inertia turbocharge cited as its key features. China Yuchai plans to mass-produce the engine for multiple applications, including, though not limited to, buses and goods vehicles.
