Heavy truck segment helps boast total truck sales in Brazil to 128,679 units in 2021

Brazil - Despite supply shortages and production stoppages during 2021, the Brazilian truck manufacturers responded well to a market that grew strongly: According to data from Anfavea (National Association of Automotive Vehicle Manufacturers) sales in 2021 totalled 128,679, an increase of 43.5% compared with 89,678 units in 2020.

The principal segment that drove growth was heavy trucks (tractors: gvw ˃ 40t) with 66,144 units, an increase of 49.3% compared with 44,293 units sold in 2020. The semi-heavy rigid truck segment (15t ≤ gvw) sold 32,187 units, an increase of 39.2% (2020: 23,120), followed by light with 12,577 units (+39.0%) and medium with 11,185 units (+33.8%) and lastly by semi-light, with 6,586 units, with 35.5% growth compared to the previous year.
