Lion Electric begins work on equipping production lines at new facility in Illinois

Canada / USA – Electric bus and truck builder, The Lion Electric Co, based in Saint-Jérôme, Quebec, has announced it has taken possession of a new production facility in Joliet, Illinois, USA. The firm is currently improving the site, with the installation of equipment to follow shortly after. The first vehicles are expected to roll off the production line in the second half of 2022.

Lion claims the new facility, which was first announced in 2021, will represent the largest dedicated production site for zero-emission medium and heavy-duty vehicles in the USA. Upon completion, the plant will have an expected annual production capacity of 20,000 vehicles and will be capable of producing the firm’s entire range of school buses, minibuses, and trucks.
