Bus & coach sales up 110% in India

India – Domestic sales of buses (7.5t gvw and above) increased by a massie 110.8% in the third quarter (Q3: October to December) of the financial year 2021-22 to register 3,624 units, up from 1,719 units in Q3/2020-21. Total bus production also increased significantly in the third quarter of FY 2020-21 rising by 63.9% from 3,052 to 4,993 units. Total exports increased by 23.2% in Q3 of FY 2021-22 to record 727 units, up from 590 units in Q3/FY2020-21.  

Turning to the individual segments, sales of medium duty buses (ICV: 7.5 tonnes - 12 tonnes) shot up by 175.6% from 701 units in Q3 of FY 2020-21 to 1,932 units in Q3 of FY 2021-22. Production of ICV range increased by 114.9% to register 2,893 units in Q3 FY 2022 up from 1,346 units, export up by 23.2%. It is worth noting VECV Eicher became market leader during the quarter.
