Hino admits falsifying engine data, suspends some models

Japan - Hino Motors Corporation (a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Company) of Hino-Shi, Japan in early March suspended sales of several medium- and heavy-duty vehicle models in Japan after admitting to falsifying engine performance data to obtain emissions and fuel economy certifications. 

The Tokyo-based commercial vehicle manufacturer reported its decision to suspend sales of vehicles fitted with three key engine models all introduced in 2017 - the A05C (HC-SCR) 5.1-litre 4-cylinder (191kW) engine, A09C 8.9-litre 6-cylinder (279kW) and E13C 12.9-litre 6-cylinder (302kW) engine - to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, while pointing out that the engines also have performance problems.
