New Flyer receives order for 220 hybrid buses for Philadelphia, USA

Canada / USA New Flyer Industries Canada ULC, a subsidiary of the NFI Group based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, has received a firm order for 220 hybrid buses from Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, plus options to purchase up to 120 more over the next five years. 

The order comprises 220 forty-foot buses from the Xcelsior hybrid range, providing a seating capacity of 40. New Flyer’s hybrid buses are fitted with a Cummins B6.7 engine and a ‘Modular Accessory Power System’ by BAE Systems. The electric power which propels the vehicle is generated by the combustion engine and then stored in the batteries. New Flyer claims that operators can achieve potential fuel savings of up to 29% by using their hybrid buses instead of a diesel equivalent.
