USA – Columbus, Indiana-based Cummins Inc has announced a new platform of fuel-agnostic engines derived from a common base engine. The firm states that the platform will be available for diesel, natural gas, and hydrogen.

Due to the nature of a common base engine, all options in the platform will share a high number of parts. Cummins states that below the head gasket, each engine will have largely similar components, with the parts above the head gasket developed individually for the different types of fuel. According to the firm, the parts commonality will offer increased benefits to OEMS and operators, such as similar engine footprints, diagnoses, and service intervals.
