Tupy S.A. to buy MWM engine business from Navistar

Powertrain assembly at MWM in Sao Paulo

Brazil / USA - Tupy SA*, a Brazilian structural component manufacturing multinational headquartered in Joinville, state of Santa Catarina, announced on April 18, 2022, that it has reached an agreement to purchase MWM Indústria de Motores Diesel Ltda (MWM) of Sao Paulo, Brazil from Navistar International Corporation of Lisle, Illinois, USA (a subsidiary company of Germany’s Traton SE). The transaction is estimated at BRA 865 million (USD180m), subject to customary legal clearances, which is to be paid by Tupy after closing. The acquisition will be submitted for approval by the Brazilian antitrust authority.

Formerly dedicated to the development of its own diesel engines, today MWM manufactures third-party engines under manufacturing contracts. This includes machining, assembly, calibration, technical validation and engineering services. MWM also manufactures generator sets and operates in the component replacement market. Recently, it announced partnerships focused on making engines and components for natural gas and biogas engines for Brazil’s large agricultural business.
