India bus and coach exports enjoy significant growth in Q4 while domestic sales slump

India – Domestic sales of buses (7.5t gvw and above) rose by 13.1% in Q4 of the financial year 2021-22 (January to March 2022) to register 5,364 units compared with 4,744 units in Q4 of last year. Total bus production increased in the same period, up by 18.6% to 5,862 (4,943). Total exports increased by 122.5% in Q4, recording 2,695 units, up from 1,211 units in Q4 last year.

Turning to the individual segments, sales of medium-duty buses (7.5t≤GVW≤12t) rose by 62.6% from 1,916 units in Q4 2020/21 to 3,116 units in same quarter for this year. Production increased by 57.2% to register 3,305 units in Q4 of this year, up from 2,102 units. Exports rose by 84.1%. Interestingly, Eicher Motors registered a 200%+ increase to take segment leadership.
