Indian truck sales make a strong recovery in 2021

India - Domestic sales of medium-and heavy-duty rigid trucks enjoyed growth of 44.1% to 201,038 units in financial year (FY) 2021-22, up from 139,486 units in the FY2020/21. Export sales of medium and heavy rigid trucks (7.5t gvw and above) grew by 87.3% from 13,295 units in the year 2020-21 to 24,895 units in the full fiscal year 2021-22. The total number of medium and heavy rigid trucks produced rose from 157,040 units in 2020 to 228,170 units in 2021, up by 45.3 per cent. Tata Motors Ltd led all weight classes within the rigid truck segment. 

Sales of medium-duty rigid trucks (7.5t to 12 tons) saw growth of 24.5% domestically to 34,822 units in FY2021-22, up from 27,962 units in FY2020-21. Export sales rose by 58.3% in FY2021-22 to register 7,324 units against 4,627 units in FY2020-21; yet production only rose marginally relatively speaking, by 18.1%. Tata Motors recorded  domestic sales growth of 43.1% to total 16,984 units in FY 2021-22 (11,868).
