Significant growth in most bus & coach classes across India in 2021/22

India – Bus and coach domestic sales (>7.5t gvw) in the financial year ending March 2022 (FY2021-22) reported unit growth figures of 61.20% to 11,804 units, up from 7,322 units a year prior. Total bus production also rose by 54.90%, up to 15,510 units from 10,010 units in previous year; while total bus and coach (>7.5t gvw) export sales grew by 60.9% to 6,499 units from 4,040 units in the prior fiscal year.
Turning to the individual segments, domestic sales of medium duty buses (GVW: 7.5 tons - 12 tons) grew by 113.7% from 3,078 units last year to 6,579 units in FY 2021-22. While exports sales over the same period experienced annual growth of 64.1% from 1,884 to 3,092 units, production rose by 104.20% to 9,183 units from 4,498 units. VECV and Ashok Leyland in this segment registered a growth of 167.7% and 132.4% respectively.
