USA – BAE Systems Inc, based in Endicott, New York, has announced it is supplying powertrain components for 45 Enhanced Electric Hybrid (EEH) hybrid articulating buses sold by Winnipeg, Canada-based New Flyer Industries to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA).

The 60-foot articulating buses have been selected to replace the city of Boston’s ageing fleet of 32 Neoplan Dual Mode Articulated (DMA) buses that were purchased between 2004-2006. The powertrain option in these vehicles is a variation of BAE Systems’ Series-ER offering, featuring a diesel engine that can be shut off entirely for up to three miles at a time, where the vehicle is then solely powered by the 32kWh on-board lithium-ion battery.
