Belgium / USA – With the launch of the new lightweight modular Van Hool A Series zero emission city bus in lengths from 12m to 24m at Euro Mobility Expo in Paris in June, Van Hool NV of Koningshooikt, announced that it still intends to manufacture transit buses at its new Morristown, Tennessee plant in the USA with start of production in 2025. (The facility, which was initially announced in 2018 with an investment of some USD47m initially, was set to open in late 2020 but the project was postponed with the outbreak of the coronavirus).

Dirk Snauwaert, Public Relations Manager at Van Hool said market restrictions caused by measures to curtail the spread of the Coronavirus had caused delays to the project. Subject to further health issues or other reasons outside of their control, Snauwaert said Van Hool was on track to finish construction of the new plant, and with recruitment and training in this new high voltage zero emissions sector.
