New show on the road: A report from the inaugural Road Transport Expo
By Bradley Osborne - 26th July 2022
UK – Between 30 June and 2 July at NAEC Stoneleigh in Warwickshire, a brand-new exhibition dedicated to trucks made its first appearance. Organised by Road Transport Media – which publishes Commercial Motor, Motor Transport, Truck & Driver, and Transport News – the ‘Road Transport Expo’ aims to put heavy goods vehicles “at the heart” of its offering to visitors. It will return next year between 28 and 30 June; subsequently, it will be held every two years, timed to alternate with ‘IAA Transportation’ in Hanover.
Only one piece of major news – the unveiling of Tevva’s range-extended battery-electric truck – was announced at the show; but it is not surprising that manufacturers would avoid using a new and unproven event as a platform for releasing big news. Nevertheless, 175 exhibitors attended the show, a massive vote of confidence in the organisers and in the stated purpose of the new event. The breadth of vehicle segments and applications covered was exemplary: from the major truck manufacturers to tipper, tanker, and specialised bodybuilders, alongside start-ups with innovative business propositions.
