France Renault SA, an automotive corporation based in Boulogne-Billancourt, France, has signed a letter of intent to collaborate with Phoenix Mobility to develop a retrofit kit for converting light commercial vehicles to electric power.

The prospective partnership, which would see the two companies electrifying diesel vans older than five years, is claimed to be the first of its kind in the French market. The first stage of the collaboration will be to develop a proof-of-concept kit for converting Renault Master vans. 1,000 converted vehicles will be marketed from the end of 2023 onwards; if successful, the project will be extended to Renault’s other vehicle ranges. Assembly and installation of the retrofit kits will take place at Renault’s remanufacturing facility in Flins. Phoenix Mobility, as a recognised supplier in the retrofit market, will be responsible for selling the converted vehicles.
