Volvo dealerships to install network of public charging stations connecting northern and southern California

Map of proposed charging network through central California

USA – A consortium of automotive technology and service companies has committed to developing a publicly-accessible charging network for medium- and heavy-duty electric vehicles which will cover a major haulage route in the Central Valley of California, linking San Francisco and Sacramento in the north to the Greater Los Angeles metropolitan region in the south.

The ’Electrified Charging Corridor Project’ is supported by USD2m awarded by the California Energy Commission through its ‘BESTFIT Innovative Charging Solutions’ funding programme. Project partners include Volvo Group North America Inc (along with Volvo Financial Services and Volvo Technology of America), Shell Recharge Solutions1, and Volvo Truck dealerships based in the state of California. Over the next 18 months, high-powered chargers will be installed at dealership locations, including TEC Equipment Oakland, TEC Equipment Dixon, Western Truck Center in Stockton, and Affinity Truck Centers in Fresno and Bakersfield. These will extend a charging network which already includes TEC Equipment locations in Fontana and La Mirada.
