Netherlands / FinlandNeste Oyj of Espoo, Finland has announced it is expanding production of renewable fuels at its refinery in Rotterdam, Netherlands from 1.4m to 2.7m tons per year, beginning in the first half of 2026.

The Finnish company is known in the automotive industry for its “drop-in” renewable diesel, generated from waste feedstocks, which can be mixed with conventional diesel or used on its own in an internal combustion engine. The Rotterdam facility, according to Neste, is already the largest producer of renewable fuels in Europe. Its expansion represents an investment of EUR1.9bn. Together with an ongoing expansion project in Singapore and a joint venture with Marathon Petroleum Company in Martinez, California, Neste’s Rotterdam investment will boost its global production capacity from 3.3m to 6.8m tons annually.
