Grammer opens new testing centre for seating comfort and ergonomics at headquarters

Inside the 'test cube' in Grammer's new lab for testing seats and cab interiors

GermanyGrammer AG of Ursensollen, Bavaria has opened a new testing centre at its headquarters for evaluating the comfort and ergonomics of its prototype and series production seats and components for commercial vehicles.

The company’s ‘ErgoLab’ comprises a design studio, mocked-up cabin interiors and a ‘test cube’ measuring roughly 300m2. The test cube is used to assess the haptics, or “feel”, of the seat, steering wheel, and other interior components in different lighting conditions. In addition, Grammer uses motion capture to collect data from the test cube, recording sitting positions and body posture for different applications in order to build up user profiles for each seat model. The information gleaned from the test cube will support future product development.
