Japanese firms establish research association into alternative fuel production

Japan – A consortium of Japanese firms, including automotive manufacturers Toyota Motor Corporation, Daihatsu Motor Co Ltd, Suzuki, Subaru and oil company ENEOS Corporation, established the ‘Research Association of Biomass Innovation for Next Generation Automobile Fuels’ on 1 July to study efficient ways of producing alternative fuels for automobiles. 

The research consortium seeks to come up with solutions to questions surrounding the sourcing of biomass, or plant-based waste feedstocks, for the production of bioethanol, and the manufacturing processes involved in producing bioethanol and hydrogen fuels. The consortium has outlined four areas of interest:
