The Western Star 57X

USADaimler Truck North America LLC (DTNA) of Portland, Oregon has announced that its ‘Western Star’ brand of trucks has added a new on-highway model to its X-Series line of heavy vehicles, boasting improvements to fuel economy and durability.

The ‘57X’ is the successor to the ‘5700XE’, first launched in 2015 for on-highway applications. With a maximum power output of 600hp and torque of 2,050lb-ft, the 57X provides fuel savings of 5.8% compared to its predecessor, and this is thanks to alterations to the powertrain and the cab design. It can be ordered with the latest engines produced by DTNA brand Detroit Diesel: the DD13 Gen 5, the DD15 Gen 5, and the DD16.  The DT12 Direct and the Overdrive AMT transmissions systems are options with can further reduce fuel consumption and parts wear. Additional options, such as front steer and high-speed ratio rear tandem axles, can also contribute to greater fuel economy and performance while reducing maintenance costs.
