South Korea / USAHankook Tire & Technology of Seongnam-si, South Korea has approved plans to invest USD1.6bn at its plant in Clarksville, Tennessee, USA. The expansion of the facility will increase production of passenger car and light truck tyres and will allow for Hankook’s first U.S.-based Truck Bus and Radial (TBR) tyre production line.

Phase 2 expansion of the facility will double the company’s production capacity for passenger car and light truck tyres in the U.S. to 11 million units a year, and Phase 3 will introduce a further 1 million Truck Bus and Radial tyres annually. Phase 3 expansion will generate 400 new jobs, adding to a total of 1,200 new jobs in the area. Building work is set to begin in early 2023, with the aim of starting expanded production by the end of 2024 and achieving full capacity by early 2026.
