Germany – Electrification specialist pepper motion GmbH of Denkendorf, Bavaria has announced it is teaming up with tech firm driveblocks of Garching bei München, Bavaria to develop a prototype autonomous truck which will begin pilot testing in the summer of 2023.

Start-up firm driveblocks, founded in 2021 by the winners of the Indy Autonomous Challenge – a race exclusively made up of autonomous vehicles on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway – is developing the autonomous software which will allow electric trucks to operate without a driver. Integration of the technology, including sensors and computers, will be handled by pepper motion. The ambition is to create a manufacturer-independent retrofit solution which will convert any electric truck into a driverless vehicle.
