Mercedes-Benz and Rivian sign MoU to establish electric van joint venture

Germany / USAMercedes-Benz Group AG of Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Rivian Automotive Inc, an electric powertrain developer based in Irvine, California, USA, to work together in electric vehicle development, which could entail the establishment of a manufacturing joint venture for electric vans. 

The planned joint venture would repurpose an existing Mercedes-Benz facility in Central or Eastern Europe for the production of electric vans based on two vehicle platforms. The first is the projected ‘VAN.EA’, an electric van platform currently in development at Mercedes-Benz. The other is the second-generation version of the Rivian Light Van platform.
