Cummins launches new fuel agnostic engine platform at IAA

Cummins X Series Fuel-Agnostic 15-litre engine line-up at IAA with three cylinder head and fuelling system options of Biogas, H2 and HVO.

Germany / USA – At the IAA Transportation exhibition, ICE and e-powertrain and components supplier, Cummins Inc of Columbus, Indiana, USA displayed what it calls its fuel-agnostic X Series engine platform with hydrogen, biogas and advanced diesel (and biofuel) fuel capability.

Cummins stated that the next generation 10-litre and 15-litre displacement X Series models are designed to accelerate the decarbonization of heavy-duty, long-haul truck fleets, while being also able to meet proposed ultra-low emission levels, including Euro VII regulations, expected to take effect in 2027. The displayed 15-litre carnation with substitutable cylinder heads together with different fuelling systems were cleverly displayed with the cylinder block in Cummins’ red and with the three different cylinder heads and fuelling systems in white for biogas, H2 and HVO – see picture below.
