Designwerk launches new electric lowliner tractor

Designwerk 4x2 lowliner tractor

Switzerland - Designwerk Technologies AG, an engineering company in Winterthur, Switzerland, which develops and sells electromobility products and engineering services, has launched a new electric lowliner tractor unit built on a Volvo FH based chassis. Fitted with a 500 kilowatt (680 hp) electric motor and single-speed transmission, means no shifting or clutching is required. It has a 380 kilowatt-hour battery, which provides a range of 280km, with a 45-minute charging time. Designed for transporting volume (as opposed to heavy) goods in urban areas, the truck is offered in four different models: The High Cab, Mid Cab, Mid Cab X and Low Cab, with first deliveries expected in Q4 2023.

Designwerk has been developing and manufacturing low-volume electric trucks, mobile fast chargers, battery-buffered fast charging stations in the megawatt range, and modular high-voltage battery systems since 2008. Last year (2021), the Volvo Group purchased a 60% stake in the company, whilst its Batteriewerk, MDC and Futuricum brands in 2022 were bundled under the umbrella of the corporate brand Designwerk.
