USAZEVx Inc of Gilbert, Arizona has announced that its ‘Athena’ retrofit kit for converting diesel Sprinter vans to battery-electric has received approval from the California Air Resources Board (CARB), meaning that ZEVx can begin carrying out vehicle conversions in California and other states.

The CARB issues “Executive Orders” which verify compliance with the board’s regulations, for example with regards to emissions. ZEVx received a series “B” order for the conversion of vehicles to gaseous fuels or “alternative fuel retrofit systems”, which encompasses conversions to electric drivelines. The order covers ZEVx conversions of Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans with the company’s electric drivetrain kit and a 62-kWh battery.
